Halloween is coming, and there’s no better way to get in the spooky spirit than with a fun craft! Today, let’s turn a simple yogurt pot into a Halloween lantern that’s perfect for decorating. It’s simple, inexpensive, and kids will love it! Follow these steps to make a spooky lantern that lights up Halloween night.
Materials needed
An empty yogurt pot (glass or sturdy plastic)
Paint (white, black, orange, or green)
Paintbrushes
Black paper (for eyes and mouth)
Glue
LED tea light candle (safer than a real candle)
Instructions
Prepare the Pot Make sure the pot is clean and dry. Remove any labels if it’s a glass jar.
Paint the Pot Pick your base color. For:
a ghost: choose white,
a pumpkin: choose orange,
a monster: go for green!
Paint the outside of the pot and let it dry completely. Add a second layer if needed.
Create Eyes and Mouth While the paint dries, cut shapes for the eyes and mouth from black paper:
Ghost: small circles for eyes, an “O”-shaped mouth.
Pumpkin: triangle eyes and zigzag mouth.
Monster: get creative—big eyes, sharp teeth, funny smile, etc.
Attach Details Glue the paper eyes and mouth onto the painted pot. Let the glue dry.
Place the Candle Insert an LED tea light in the pot. LED is best for safety. When lit, your lantern’s face will glow with spooky charm!
Display Place the lantern on a table, shelf, or windowsill to illuminate the house and add Halloween magic.
Extra ideas to personalize
Glow-in-the-Dark Paint for a brighter effect.
Multiple Characters by using various yogurt pots.
Accessories like hats or drawn scars to make each lantern unique.
Why Kids Love This Craft
It’s a fun, hands-on way to get creative while recycling everyday items. Kids will enjoy seeing their spooky lanterns light up in the dark and come to life!
